Local firefighters receive donation in honour of former deputy chief

The Prince Albert Firefighters Association recently received a generous donation in memory of a former deputy chief of the department.

Arnold Nelson, who went by Bob, first served with the Prince Albert Fire Department in 1956. He passed away in mid-August this year.

He served 32 years in the community before retiring in 1988 as deputy chief.

Recently, Bob’s son Jim and grandson Michael presented the Prince Albert Firefighters with a cheque for $5,000 to the local charity.

“It was entirely a donation made by the Nelson family as a legacy to leave behind,” said President of the Prince Albert Firefighters, Graham Pederson.

Pederson added the donation will go a long way to recognizing Bob’s legacy and what he meant to the City of Prince Albert.

“It’s a great way to honour the passing of a former member and we can use that money to put back into the community. It’s great all around,” he said.

Peterson said the money, like other donations, will go to various fundraising events in the community.

“We try and keep all our donations to the community of Prince Albert because as firefighters, it’s where we live and we work and we serve,” he added.

He explained they are always open to donations from community members and you don’t have to be associated with the local fire department to do so.
