Virtual Camping

Camp Easter Seal celebrates anniversary virtually

Sep 24, 2021 | 3:07 PM

Camp Easter Seal is celebrating their 67th Anniversary virtually this year.

Camp Easter Seal is inviting everyone to join in on their Virtual Camp Day this year. They have been Saskatchewan’s only fully accessible camp, since 1954 and tens of thousands of children and adults experiencing disabilities have experienced what it has to offer.

“We thought delivering Camp Day would actually be a great experience for anyone who was not able to attend camp physically in the past,” Jennifer Smith, fund development and communications manager with SaskAbilites told paNOW. “We invite everyone to come on to the website and see everything we have to offer.

“Camp Easter Seal is Saskatchewan’s only barrier-free camp of its kind. We see 650 youth and adults attend camp every year. It’s a very fun week of memories and experiences and is very life-impacting.”

She added there will be many people sharing past memories, testimonials, and greetings from special guests including Saskatchewan Premier, Scott Moe.

Camp Easter Seal will also be revealing new projects which they have recently finished at their location at the resort village of Manitou Beach, South East of Saskatoon. They will unveil a new treehouse and will showcase the re-opening of the aquatics centre pool.

“Nothing can compare to in-person experiences, but the virtual program is as close as we can get,” Smith added. “Past events have been very fun.”

She added one of the most important challenges this year that they overcame was communication, and keeping campers engaged.

“The beauty of zoom is being able to see everyone still,” Smith said. “Communication is very important. We hope that at least this challenge was overcome through the virtual program this year.”

The celebration can be watched online, on the SaskAbilites website. Updates throughout the day will also be posted to the Camp Easter Seal Facebook page.
