Nearly 1/4 of Peace Region crop combined: Report

The province’s crop report dated September 7 says 23.4 per cent of the crop in the Peace Country had been combined as of that date.

The five-year average for this time of year is 5.9 per cent.

The percentages by crop are 74.9 for peas, 34.5 for spring wheat, 18.8 for barley, 15.3 for oats, and 2.6 for canola.

The report says even with the rain the first week of September, six per cent of the crops in the Peace were combined.

No barley was eligible for malt and crop quality is below the five-year average, but the number one canola and top two grades of spring wheat are considered above average.

There was no second cut of hay and 67 per cent of pastures are rated poor, 30 per cent fair, and three per cent good.

The report also says some parts of the Peace have gone from drier than normal to above normal precipitation.

Across Alberta, 45.3 per cent of the crop had been combined as of September 7, with progress in the south the furthest along at 64.1 per cent.
