MELFORT, Sask. – Manitoba has become the first province to establish an organic check off.
Producers of Manitoba organic cereals, oilseeds and pulses will remit .5 per cent of gross sales on a quarterly basis to the Manitoba Organic Alliance (MOA).
The proceeds will be used to support organic research, extension, and market development initiatives, along with specific organic sector development activities designed to build resilience on organic farms.
The new regulations came into effect Aug. 12.
