The Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division released their strategic plan that will last until the 2024 school year.

The plan focuses on educational excellence, human diversity, community engagement, responsible governance, and effective infrastructure and facilities.

“It helps administration and staff set their plans to be in line with this direction,” Robert Bratvold, Director of Education for the school division told paNOW.

One important focus will be the plans inclusive nature which includes work on collaborating with staff, community organizations and student council.

“I think the important thing in the plan is direction,” Bratvold said. “All the priorities will be seen in all of our work. These are the things we will do and what we will work towards.

“I would say the most important thing is its inclusive and people can see themselves in it. Also, people can find direction from the board to support our community.”

According to the education director, these plans are much broader, and aspirational than previous plans.

“We have strengthened our inclusion and cultural responsiveness in this plan,” Bratvold said. “There’s also some specific supports for the LGBTQ2S+ community.

“It’s a really good mix between some consistent streams and areas that we have been working on and are showing success in over the last number of years, and here are some new aspects to those things.”

The strategic plan has five different focus areas including learning and innovation which focuses on technology and innovation and individualized learning in math and literacy. Mental health and wellbeing which focuses on physical activity and connections that foster engagement and belonging. Inclusion and cultural responsiveness which focuses on supports for the LGBTQ2S+ community and partnerships with First Nations communities and leaders. Citizenship and relationships which focuses on community education and student voice and governance and leadership which focuses on fiscal responsibility and stewardship of resources, technology, and infrastructure.

“We want to take this plan and make it come alive in our system over the next couple years,” Bratvold added. “Administration, staff and parents help make this happen for our kids in the community. Our next task is taking this direction and making it become real.”
