Listen: Farmers continue to make good progress with harvest in Saskatchewan

MELFORT, Sask. – Much of the combining stopped with rain reported in many parts of Saskatchewan this past week.

Even with the delay, combining is still well ahead of the five-year average.

Melfort, Sask. area farmer Murray Stevenson said they have about 60 per cent of the crop in the bin with canola and faba beans left to combine.

Crop quality has been quite good but the hot weather this summer hurt yields but Stevenson said it could have been worse.

“The yield is about half of what normal is out in our area which is actually surprising for the amount of rain we had this summer,” he said.

Alice McFarlane with Ag Access talked to Murray Stevenson about this year’s crop.
