MELFORT, Sask. — Saskatchewan feeder cattle prices were mixed compared to prices reported the previous week.

Feeder steer prices were $266.13 per hundredweight (cwt) for the 300-400-pound weight category to $178.30 per cwt for the 900 pound-plus weight category this week. The largest price decrease was seen in the 400-500-pound weight category, with prices declining by $2.62 cwt.

Average weekly prices for Saskatchewan’s feeder heifers were also mixed across the reported weight categories.

Canfax reported a total of 9,341 head of cattle were sold in Saskatchewan, higher than the 8,814 head during the previous week. This was a significant increase compared to 6,329 head marketed during the same period in 2020.

4-H Canada has announced the winners of the 2021 scholarships.

TD Bank Group provided $30,000 in scholarships for 12 4-H members.

Each recipient will receive $2,500 toward their post-secondary education in agriculture, agricultural science, or agricultural business this fall.

4-H Canada CEO Shannon Benner says agriculture continues to be an important part of the future.

“Our ever-changing world has taught us that food security is more important now than ever, and we are proud to partner with TD in supporting youth who are pursuing post-secondary education in the field of agriculture,” Benner said in a news release.
