Wild qualifier at Ladies Lobstick results in a three-way tie for first and an ace

Aug 25, 2021 | 9:55 AM

The 2021 Fountain Tire Ladies Lobstick is off to a roaring and wacky start.

Shell Lake phenom Brooklin Fry, Moose Jaw veteran Lorie Boyle, and Saskatoon’s Kim Brown, who grew up in Prince Albert, were all tied for first place after Monday and Tuesday’s qualifying rounds at 11-over-par.

That’s eight strokes better than the rest of the field as Sue Skinner and Diane Bethune were 19-over-par after qualifying.

Brown, who is a four-time Ladies Lobstick champion, took the low qualifier spot after the playoffs, while Boyle was second and Fry was third. Boyle also aced the 12th hole on Monday for the lone hole-in-one of the tournament so far.

The quarterfinals start on Wednesday at Waskesiu, with Brown facing off against eighth-ranked Dana Kidd, Boyle taking on seventh seed Abra Thompson and Fry will face a familiar friend and foe in Kathy Ziglo. Sue Skinner and Diane Bethune will round out the quarterfinal matchups.
