Christopher Lake prepares for Western Days this weekend

Residents of northern Saskatchewan can attend a fun, local festival this weekend at Christopher Lake as they host a dance tonight and a parade, and trade show tomorrow.

Western Days at Christopher Lake starts tonight with a fish fry beginning at 5 p.m. and a family dance afterwards where multiple time winner of the Saskatchewan Country Music Association award, Larry Krause from Rosthern and his band will be playing.

“We’re really excited to be back playing and it’s great to see Western Days back and running again,” Krause told paNOW. “I’m really pleased to be a part of this event that is basically in my backyard.

“The music tonight is going to range from original music that I have wrote. I will do a few songs off my new album Warm Breeze. And of course, there will be a lot of old country favorites as well. Something for everyone to be able to enjoy.”

There will be a full day of events tomorrow, starting at 8 a.m. which include a parade, a trade show, a petting zoo, and fireworks to wrap up the day.

“The parade starts at 11 a.m. and anyone is welcome to join there is no fee,” Tasha Mcknight, president of Western Days said. “After the parade there will be games for the kids to play, and a hot dog and hamburger sale. It’s all for the kids and the community.”

Over the past few years, Western Days has brought in about 400-500 people throughout the day, so they are preparing for a busy weekend.

“There are still tickets for the dance available at the door,” Mcknight said. “We have four stages set up for tomorrow, so there will be multiple people coming to play throughout the village.”

At the trade show people can expect to see homemade baked goods, wooden signs, clothing, and bath bombs.

“We have an awesome line-up, there are tons of people that have come forward,” Mcknight added. “It will be great this year.”

After not being able to host Western Days last year, they are very excited for the upcoming weekend.

“Last year was very upsetting because we couldn’t have anything going on,” Mcknight said. “This year is amazing. I think people are looking for something to do and I think this will be some peoples first outing.”

Guidelines will still be followed at Western Days with social distancing to make everyone there as comfortable as possible.
