MELFORT, Sask. — Dairy Farmers of Canada (DFC) has launched a new marketing campaign that highlights the next generation of Canadian dairy farmers.

Dairy Farmers of Tomorrow features young farmers shining a light on sustainable and responsible modern farming practices.

The platform shows Canada’s next generation of farmers on a mission to keep innovating and improving, especially in the areas of animal care and sustainability.

Working with third-party social media influencers, young Canadian dairy farmers showcase their use of technologies while debunking myths about dairy farming practices.

The campaign which kicked off last week will run through July 22 nationwide.

Alberta Beef Producers (ABP) are supporting youth through a new program.

Young people aged eight to 21, and involved in Beef 4-H, junior cattle shows, or beef production have a chance to win one of three prizes in the ABP Young Guns Contest.

Participants are asked to describe what they see as the future of the beef industry.

Entries can be submitted as a written piece, presentation, video, social media campaign, blog post or media pitch.

To be eligible to win, submissions must be in by midnight, July 30. The winners will be determined by a panel of judges by Aug. 16.

JBS USA paid $11 million in ransom to those responsible for the cyberattack that disrupted operations across North America and Australia.

JBS USA Chief Executive Officer Andre Nogueira confirmed it was a difficult decision but necessary.

“However, we felt this decision had to be made to prevent any potential risk for our customers,” Nogueira said in a news release.

The Sao Paulo-based meat processing company said the cyberattack on May 30 forced it to shut down all its beef plants in the U.S., as well as at one of Canada’s largest beef plants in Brooks, Alta.

Production has returned to normal levels and the company expected lost production to be fully recovered by this week.
