I asked the flight attendant my ‘famous’ question, “Tell me something beautiful, loving or kind you have seen done on a plane.”

This smiling woman didn’t even have to think, she answered immediately.

“That’s easy, it’s when I see a couple who are sitting across the isle from each other holding hands.  I just want to take picture it’s so sweet!  Oh and there was this older couple sitting up front one time and she feel asleep before take off and her husband reached over and snugged up her seat belt. So, so sweet!”

Ahhhh.

You know, the big surprises and gifts we give to people we love are special. They are planned and intentional and deliberate and that’s great. Consider though the small, unconscious acts that you do (or are done for you) by people you love that show love in the tinest, most beautiful way – like the ones that the flight attendant noticed.

Doing, and appreciating, unconscious acts of love, it’s just one more way…it just one more way to live Your Life, Unlimited.

“Have you noticed when someone is losing control how their body and language changes, their tone of voice? They cannot think straight and they overreact-reduced to their default behaviour! In this “emotional” moment all personal freedoms are lost and people say and do ill advised things. Career limiting moves are born in this “emotional” moment.
During a boardroom discussion, a highly respected scientist lost control, sprung to her feet, lunged at the table, told everyone what they could do before slamming the door behind her. When we overreact to a situation, it can turn to hostile physical or verbal outbursts.
Understanding that we cannot trust what we are thinking in times of stress and anxiety is important for our sanity, integrity and success. Therefore,  if we cannot trust what we are thinking in this “emotional” moment – do not make that phone call – do not send that email – do not express yourself on social media!”
The unsurpassed method of communication is sticking to the facts and leaving emotion out of it.”
Excerpts are from the book, The Freedom Challenge: Mastering Emotions, Restoring Honour to Leadership by Brenda Oliver who joined me this week for the Your Life, Unlimited radio show to talk about Emotional Intelligence.
As well, Pat Goodberry-Dyck joined us to share her insights about Intential Grieving. After the sudden loss of her young husband, Pat created tools to help herself through the grieving process and has realized the value of sharing that will the world. You can her flight plane on her site.
Though no one wants to think about these things, the fact is most of us will be grieving some thing or some one sooner than we’ve like. It may even be a job or a personal change, but planning for it – having a process and system in place may provide what you need, when you need it.
