Rose Garden Hospice gets building approval from City Council

The Rose Garden Hospice is now in the final push for fundraising to make the project a reality. Prince Albert city council approved the development permit for the hospice at Tuesday’s meeting.

The hospice will be approximately 10 acres in size on 500 38^th Street West and will provide end of life care for up to 10 patients with eight staff members on site at a time.

Director of planning and development, Craig Guidinger said the hospice is a positive project.

“The approval of a development permit is a significant milestone to get to that finish line,” Guidinger told council. “They want to break ground as soon as they are able.”

Rose Garden Hospice board member, Marina Mitchell told paNOW they were waiting for the development permit to be approved and will begin construction right away.

“All the tenders are complete and ready to go,” Mitchell said. “We’re excited that the permit was approved, we can now move forward with building.”

In a city report, the department of planning and development said the hospice will improve access to care services in the city. Private and public care homes, senior’s housing and child day care centres are forms of supportive housing the city would like in all areas of P.A., the report said.

While the hospice is about to begin construction, they are still fundraising. The hospice is currently at about $2.8 million of their $4 million goal.

Mitchell added there will be a major fundraiser coming up in June.
