Power Outage Affecting PA National Park May Continue into Victoria Day Long Weekend

May 20, 2021 | 9:55 AM

The health and safety of Canadians is Parks Canada’s first priority. Prince Albert National Park is impacted by the outage affecting Waskesiu, Meath Park, Paddockwood, La Ronge, Stanley Mission and all surrounding rural areas.

The estimated time for power to be restored is 2:00 p.m. today. The park remains open and water service is on.

All national park visitor services and facilities such as the Visitor Centre, entrance gates, washrooms, campgrounds, playgrounds, beaches, parking lots (excluding electric charge stations) and picnic shelters are open.

The Nature Centre and oTENTiks remain closed for the season due to COVID-19.

The power is out in the Waskesiu townsite.

Services including restaurants, gas stations, and grocery stores, may be impacted by the outage. Visitors and residents are asked to contact businesses directly if seeking information about services. Visitors and residents are encouraged to be prepared and plan ahead should the outage remain in effect for a number of days including over the Victoria Day Long Weekend.

Currently, there are limited services in the surrounding area. Visitors and residents must be self-sufficient and aware that travel essentials (eg. gas, money machines, restaurants) and camping essentials (eg. groceries, ice, toiletries) may be limited north of the City of Prince Albert. Visitors should expect delays due to the power outage when they arrive in the park.

Park services and facilities are relying on generators to power their systems and may experience service interruptions from time to time.

To make the most of their Parks Canada experience and to plan trips effectively, visitors are encouraged to check the Important Bulletins before travelling to Prince Albert National Park.

Please monitor the SaskPower website for updates on the power outage.
