Grads get good news from Saskatchewan government

May 19, 2021 | 6:22 PM

Graduation ceremonies in Saskatchewan are expected to grow in the coming weeks.

The Saskatchewan government revealed Wednesday that, starting May 30, outdoor graduation ceremonies can include up to 150 graduates and guests.

Teachers and staff who are required to stage the event don’t count in the total number of attendees.

Currently, outdoor graduations are limited to 30 guests. However, Step One of the province’s Re-Opening Roadmap allows as many as 150 people to attend public outdoor gatherings — and the province already has said Step One will begin May 30.

Under Step Two of the reopening plan, indoor and outdoor graduation ceremonies can have up to 150 graduates and guests in attendance.

An exact date for the launch of Step Two isn’t known, but it’s slated to begin three weeks after Step One starts — provided 70 per cent of those 30 and over have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. As of Wednesday, that number stood at 68 per cent.
