Age eligibility for vaccines drops to 16+; drive-thru/walk-in clinics added

Effective 8 a.m. Tuesday, the eligibility in the provincial age-based immunization program for first doses moves to 16 years of age and older for the entire province, including the Northern Saskatchewan Administration District.

The changes applies to all immunization clinics including booked appointments, pharmacies, drive-thru, walk-in and mobile.

Only the Pfizer vaccine has been approved for use with residents aged 16 and 17. A school immunization program for those ages will be introduced in June, although eligible residents of that age can be immunized at any of the clinics currently offering the Pfizer vaccine.

Eligibility criteria for second doses remains unchanged at 85 years and older or anyone of any age who received their first dose before February 15.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority also added dates for walk-in and drive-thru clinics throughout the province.

Buffalo Narrows will be administering the Moderna vaccine at a walk-in clinic from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18 at the Health Centre on Davey St.

A walk-in clinic will also be held at the Humboldt Uniplex from 12:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 20. The Pfizer vaccine will be given.

Dates have been added for drive-thru clinics in Lloydminster. The Pfizer vaccine will be administered on the Exhibition Grounds on Wednesday, May 19 from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and again on May 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and May 22 from 12 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

In North Battleford, residents can attend a drive-thru clinic on Tuesday, May 18 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 391 Yellowhead Highway No. 16 immunization site.

In Pine House, a walk-in clinic will take place as well on Tuesday, May 18 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Health Centre on Hilltop Ave. They’ll have the Moderna vaccine.

Prince Albert’s drive-thru clinic at No. 1 Pine Street, Highway 2 North at Thorpe’s Industry will run Friday, May 21 and Saturday, May 22 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Pfizer vaccines will be given.

The Pfizer vaccine will also be administered at a walk-in clinic in Turtleford on Tuesday, May 18 as well as May 20 and May 21 at the Community Centre from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Wakaw is offering doses of the Pfizer vaccine at the Rec Centre on Main Street from 12:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 20.

All drive-thru and walk-in clinics are on a first-come, first-served basis. No appointment is necessary, but residents are asked to cancel previously booked appointments if they choose to attend a drive-thru or walk-in clinic instead.
