It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Helen Fremont. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, beloved Grandma, and great-grandma, sister, and aunt. With family by her side, Helen passed away peacefully on May 15th, 2021 at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, SK, just 5 days short of her 93rd birthday.
Helen is survived by her sister, Clara Crabb of St. Albert, AB, her 5 children, Linda Steil, Bev Haydukewich, Corky (Gerald) Korolischuk, Butch (Linda) Fremont, and Larry Fremont (Rhonda Michaels) who live in Prince Albert and surrounding areas, 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by Alphonse Fremont, her loving husband of over 63 years, her parents Augustus and Elizabeth Fraser, ten siblings, sons-in-law Brian Haydukewich and Gordon Steil, along with numerous sisters and brothers-in-law.
Helen Gertrude Fraser was born on May 20th, 1928 in Prince Albert, SK where she grew up, attending King George and then PACI schools until graduation. She also took some secretarial training. She met Al in December 1946 and they were married on December 2nd, 1947. Since Al was a Conservation Officer and later a Park Superintendent, they had several moves around the province, including Montreal Lake, 10 years at Emma Lake, 11 years in Candle Lake, 3 years at Cypress Park, 2 years at Duck Mountain, and then back to Candle Lake where Al retired. Both Al and Helen were active in each community that they lived in. In many of these places, Helen worked alongside Al as the secretary. After 39 years of service for the Department of Saskatchewan Environment, Helen retired in April 1993. Unfortunately, soon after she broke her ankle, which bothered her for the rest of her life. However, she still managed to help Al with his many endeavors. She also enjoyed gardening, fishing, knitting, cooking, playing bingo, and especially cards. She loved her family very much, supporting them however she could, and took great pleasure in spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She never forgot a birthday or anniversary.
Around 2001, Al and Helen eventually moved into a house in Prince Albert. Helen continued to live there for 6 years after Al’s passing in 2011, and then she moved into a duplex beside her daughter. With Bev’s help, she was able to continue living happily in her own home. Because of COVID-19 restrictions this past year, she really missed the large family gatherings and especially the hugs.
A small family service will be held at MacKenzie Chapel on May 21st, 2021. In lieu of other tributes, we ask that donations be made to the Rose Garden Hospice at their Development Office located in the Gateway Mall and online https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/26521 and by mail P.O.
