Eliminate Pain with the Science of Light

Dec 30, 2016 | 7:31 AM

If you live with pain, you owe it to yourself to try Bioflex Cold Laser Therapy. It is a fascinating, alternative treatment sought out by clients suffering from a multitude of conditions. In Prince Albert, it is offered at North Country Massage and Medi Spa.

The Bioflex treatment has become so popular that spa owner Bernadette Lavoie recently brought in more equipment to meet increased demand.

“It essentially heals tissue by creating new tissue,” explains Lavoie. “This cellular regeneration is initiated by applying a low intensity diode laser to the injured area. The process results in the elimination of symptoms, including pain, and enhances the body’s immune system response, facilitating natural healing.”

Put simply, it’s using light to heal injured tissue within the body. That stimulates production of new, healthy cells. The ‘cold laser’ means it is low level laser that does not heat or injure tissue, and no invasive procedures are needed.

For many patients, it can mean living free from chronic pain and discomfort. In the case of some diabetic patients, it can even mean saving limbs from amputation.

Lavoie has seen a patient’s toes saved, because the therapy was able to stop, and reverse the damage brought on by diabetic wounds. To date, over a million treatments have been administered in Canada. The technology used for Bioflex Cold Laser Therapy is approved by the FDA and Health Canada to treat a wide range of medical conditions including:

SOFT TISSUE & SPORTS INJURIES: Ligament & Tendon Tears – Muscle Strains – Tendonitis – Contusions

ARTHRITIC CONDITIONS: Degenerative Osteoarthritis – Rheumatoid Arthritis – Vertebral Radiculopathy – Chronic Spinal Problems

REPETITIVE STRESS INJURIES: Carpal tunnel syndrome – Rotator Cuff Injuries – Tennis Elbow

TISSUE REPAIR & WOUND HEALING: Traumatic Lesions (burns) – Pressure Ulcers – Diabetic Ulcers – Venous Stasis – Compression

GENERAL HEALTH PROBLEMS: Herniated Disc – Fibromyalgia – Temporo-Mandibular Joint Syndrome – Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy – Post Herpetic Neuralgia

The therapy has also been used to treat other conditions such as skin and neurological conditions, and even tinnitus. Lavoie even admits to using it on the hips of her 13 year old Labrador. “He loves it,” she smiles showing off a photo of her dog laying still for the treatment.

Many of Lavoie’s clients are referred to her by local physicians. “It is safe, painless and there are no adverse effects.” says Lavoie, “That explains why it is becoming a preferred therapy to treat chronic problems and acute injuries. In fact, if we can treat an injury soon after it occurs, it usually heals much faster. It can even accelerate healing of broken bones.”

The Bioflex Laser Therapy was developed in Canada by surgeon, Fred Khan, MD, FRCS(C)* over the last 20 years. His company continues to test the therapy on different conditions and develop new protocols.

Lavoie refers to a study featured in the October 27, 2016 episode of CBC’s, The Nature of Things, titled “Healing the Brain”.** It showed evidence of how different forms of energy, including low level laser therapy, can positively change outcomes of patients who have suffered from brain injuries and concussions.

Lavoie is cautious about making some results sound miraculous, but points out that the results speak for themselves.

“It is science based healing. Many of my clients will come for a treatment or two, then I won’t see them for a few months. When they come back, it is to get treatment for another area of their body.” She estimates 80 to 85 per cent of clients experience improvement in their symptoms.

Stan Walberg, a local veteran who has lived with chronic pain for 40 years, had this to say. “Bioflex has eliminated pain in my knee and hip which made walking difficult, and climbing stairs very painful. I found the BioFlex treatment to be very effective.”

To ensure timely treatment availability, North Country Massage and Medi Spa has several certified BioFlex Cold Laser Therapy technicians on staff.
