Central Avenue fire still under investigation

May 11, 2021 | 4:29 PM

It’s been three weeks since a fire completely engulfed a Central Avenue business in downtown Prince Albert and P.A. police say the incident remains under investigation.

On April 21, a vacant business of three years – once known as P.A. Fur and Leather – was destroyed. Witnesses said they heard an explosion and the entire frontage of the space was ripped apart. Fire crews responded in force and two ladder trucks were involved in suppressing the lunchtime blaze and preventing it from spreading to neighbouring stores.

Police told paNOW these types of investigations can take weeks or several months to complete and they were not in a position to say if the circumstances were suspicious.

Currently, the front of the building is covered with plywood.

Saigon River Restaurant, which is directly beside the badly damaged building, has been closed since the fire. There is currently no indication as to when they may reopen but it appears the restaurant had some fire damage including an awning at the front of the business.
