Mixed Team Championship returning to Candle Lake Golf Resort

Apr 18, 2021 | 12:33 PM

The Candle Lake Golf Resort was looking forward to hosting the Golf Saskatchewan Mixed Team Championship last year—signifying the 10-year anniversary of the last time the club held the tournament.

Like so many other tournaments across the province, that was cancelled due to COVID-19.

But Candle Lake will have the next best thing, as they were granted to host the tournament against this year, on Aug. 28-29.

“We were hoping to have it last year, but we have a chance to do it this year—hopefully,” said head professional Don Ludwig, hoping the tournament won’t be cancelled again.

Since the tournament isn’t running until the end of August, there is a lot of time for the current guidelines and restrictions to change. That makes it unclear right now how the tournament could look like.

Traditionally, the Mixed Team Championship is run in a shotgun start, where groups of golfers are all assigned a different hole to begin their match, and start at the same time. Ludwig said they are allowed to do that again, as that rule was allowed last week.

One group of four is allowed per hole, which would allow for a maximum pool of 72 golfers. Prizes will likely be done virtually.
