As part of their patrol on highways and roads the Prince Albert Police Service pulled over a semi-truck earlier this week and the driver got a nasty surprise.

The semi was reported to be going 106 km/h when it passed a police vehicle that had pulled over another vehicle at the time. When passing emergency vehicles, drivers must slow down to 60 km/h. In this instance the driver was given a $753 ticket.

Brian Glynn, sergeant in charge of traffic and the Combined Traffic Services of Saskatchewan for the Prince Albert Police Service told paNOW the police officer was out on Highway 11 south somewhere between P.A. and Saskatoon.

“One of the officers did have a vehicle pulled over and was dealing with that [when] the semi went by at that speed,” Glynn said.

He added on Wednesday they were on the highway as a project using radar guns and LiDAR, which are two different tools for measuring speed. They’re planning on doing more projects as the weather warms.

He explained in April the primary focus for their work on traffic safety is speeding.

“With the weather getting a little bit warmer and our streets getting a little bit drier, we just thought that we need to go out there and be visible and slow down as many people as we can just for traffic safety purposes,” he said.

Glynn wanted to remind the public to take their time on the road, obey the traffic laws and be safe.

“If we can avoid any kind of injury or any kind of crashes, that’s kind of the reason why we’re out there, just trying to get people to slow down and make sure people get to their destination,” he said.
