Elm pruning ban
Elm tree pruning soon in effect in Prince Albert
Mar 24, 2021 | 10:52 AM
Prince Albert residents are being encouraged by the city to get their elm trees pruned by March 31, before the provincial ban comes into effect.
April 1 to Aug. 31 is the most active time for the elm bark beetles, which transmit Dutch Elm Disease. The provincial ban eliminates movement of the beetle by restricting their habitat and possible transmission through tree trimmings during this time.
Elm waste and trimmings should be properly disposed of at the closest approved landfills. Elm wood should be promptly disposed of and should not be stored or used for firewood.
