Sleepy suspect receives jail time for rural crime spree

Mar 16, 2021 | 3:19 PM

A man found sleeping behind the wheel of a stolen car, has received a one year jail sentence.

Etienne Felix was arrested by Prince Albert Police on Nov. 6, 2020.

The 2018 red Nissan Rogue had a flat tire and the wrench was still on it when officers attempted to rouse Felix. Inside the car, police found a loaded shotgun, as well as numerous stolen tools, and black and white bandanas signifying gang involvement.

Through their investigation, officers soon after discovered the car was one of two vehicles taken from a tire shop in Cudworth two weeks prior. The tools used to break into the tire shop had been taken from a farm in the Rural Municipality (RM) of St. Louis.

For his part, Felix entered guilty pleas to a pair of gun related offences, and breach of a previous court order. With credit for time spent in remand, Felix has 116 days left to serve. He’s also prohibited from owning or possessing any guns or ammunition for a period of ten years.

At the time of the incidents last fall, police said as many as three people were involved but Felix has been the only one formally charged.

The case file remains open and RCMP are still investigating. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact their nearest RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers.
