“Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
Roger Spink passed away suddenly in his home on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, at the age of 73 years. Roger was predeceased by his daughter Tasha and his brothers Gordon and Mark. He is survived by his daughters: Lauren and Leanne and their children; his stepsons: Gordon, Gavin, Greg, Mark, Cory, and their families; his sisters: June, Joy, Rena, and Laurie; as well as several nieces & nephews and loved ones. Roger was liked and respected by many friends, colleagues, acquaintances, and enriched the lives of those around him in many ways. Roger will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, compassion, and his love of telling jokes to bring a smile to the face of everyone he met.
Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Roger graduated from the U. of M., Faculty of Dentistry, in 1970. A true trailblazer, he loved helping others around the world find their own path to success and happiness. Roger was a dentist in Malaysia for two years in the early 1970s, following which he worked for several years at the National School of Dental Therapy in Fort Smith, Northwest Territories, training dental therapists for work in northern communities. In the 1980s, Roger and his family moved to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, to continue teaching at the National School of Dental Therapy, which had relocated there from Fort Smith. As a globetrotter, Roger also helped out at similar schools in Nepal and Zimbabwe.
In the late 1990s, he established his own dental practice in Prince Albert where he continued to practice until his retirement in 2013. Since then, Roger was an outreach dentist for a number of remote northern communities, travelling there several times a year. He also loved volunteering at the Ronald McDonald Family Room in the Victoria Hospital, in Prince Albert, where he channeled his positive energy and contagious smile toward helping people going through difficult times in their lives.
Roger will be forever missed. His strength, empathy, sense of adventure, and passion for life will live on in the memories of those who loved him, and passed on through the stories we share as we honor him.
Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
