Many students view high school as the first step of their journey toward a successful career. Finding a school with high-quality course options can provide students with a strong educational foundation as they prepare to enter post-secondary. With its state-of-the-art learning facilities, Carlton Comprehensive High School offers a wide variety of programs that can set up students for success throughout the remainder of their student life and beyond.

The broad range of possibilities at Carlton appeals to the interests of each student whether the student knows exactly what career they’d like to pursue, or if they are exploring their options to find the right fit. Learners will have the opportunity to explore robotics & automation or photography, challenge themselves with several French immersion courses or gain up to three university credits in English 100, Math 110 or Biology 100.

While having the facilities and programs is impressive in its own right, the real difference in educational opportunities comes from having a passionate faculty with a desire to unlock the potential of each pupil.

Principal Jeff Court believes having strong mentorship is just as important as the school’s programming when it comes to the development of a young mind.

“We have all of these great programs and things, but we have great people that are a part of making that happen as well,” Court said. “I know that our teachers and staff are passionate about these content areas, but more importantly, they’re passionate about seeing that light bulb go on in a kid’s eyes when they finally get a concept or they’re excited about some of the things they’re working towards.”

While Carlton High has a clear focus on academic success and opportunity, athletics at this institution receive the same support as the school boasts more state-of-the-art facilities and a partnership with Global Sport Academy. Young athletes will have access to a swimming pool, a fitness centre and three gymnasiums.

Court stated students who would like to become elite athletes will have a greater opportunity to achieve their goals with the guidance found exclusively at Carlton High.

“From an athletic standpoint, with people and partnerships in those areas, if you truly want to explore becoming great at an athletic sport, this is the school to do it in. It has the facilities to do it in and it’s got the people in the knowhow,” Court said. “They get to explore leadership and sport psychology, understanding the mental side of the game, nutrition and how that impacts your performance as an elite athlete.”

Experiencing a higher education isn’t limited to the classroom or the arena. The staff at Carlton High have made a point of ensuring the inclusive learning environment permeates throughout the entire campus. Take a trip through the newly renovated gallery and surround yourself with student art and inspiration.

“We’ve created it in a way that has a really campus-y feel, and that’s the intention of Carlton across every space,” Court said. “We want our school to feel good so that kids can take pride in what they’re doing there, but also have that feeling where they can explore, make mistakes and have a mentor or teacher that is really going to help navigate that next step.”
