John Hanchar passed away after a short struggle in Victoria Hospital, Prince Albert, Sask. He was 98 years and 26 days old. He was born on the farm in the Insinger, Sask. district on January 18th, 1923 to Peter and Katrina Hanchar.

John is survived by his son Rene, and daughter-in-law Robyn Hanchar (Pfeifer).

John is predeceased by his wife Elenora (Schmidt); daughter Rhonda; Father Peter; Mother Katrina (Yaschuk); brother Wasyl (Bill) and brother Theodore (Fred).

John attended Fosti school in the Sheho, Sask. district completing grade nine and then went on to Sheho High School graduating in 1942. In 1943 he attended Teachers College in Moose Jaw, Sask. He then took a teaching position at Dressler rural school in the Landestreu district, Sask. Here he met Elenora Schmidt and on Oct. 12^th, 1947 they were married and remained married until Elenora’s passing on Sept. 20, 2020. They were married 72 years and 11 months. John and Elenora moved to Pebble Lake for 6 months, they then moved to Peesane in December of 1947 and lived there for 1 1/2 years. They then moved to Gartmore in July of 1948 and lived there for 6 years. They then moved to MacNutt in July 1955 where he spent the majority of his years teaching school in MacNutt until June of 1976. During this time, he attended summer school in the University of Regina and graduated with a Bachelor of Education Degree in 1969. He remained living in MacNutt but took a teaching position in Langenburg and commuted for 3 years retiring from teaching in June 1979. John then took the position of General Manager of the MacNutt Credit Union in Sept. of 1979 until 1988 when he retired for good. He then moved to Prince Albert, Sask. in July of 2004 where he lived in the Good Shepherd Villa Seniors Complex for some time until he moved and shared residence with his son and daughter-in-law in Prince Albert. He then moved to Caleb Village Seniors housing in Prince Albert on April 20^th, 2016 where he remained until his 98th birthday on January 18, 2021 when he then moved to Eastview Care Home in Prince Albert for 26 days until his passing.

John was involved in his church activities and many community clubs and associations, coaching baseball for many years. Baseball, fishing, camping, card playing were real highlights for him. Right until his last days he rarely missed any opportunity to play cards. His proudest possessions were his boats and camping equipment, one of the saddest days in his life was when he sold his last boat.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. from the Christ Lutheran Church, MacNutt with Pastor Todd Guggenmos officiating. Interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery. If friends so desire donations may be made to the Christ Lutheran Cemetery Memorial Fund, MacNutt.
