City of P.A. announces free activities for Family Day and reopening of pool

Feb 10, 2021 | 3:59 PM

A slew of free activities planned for Family Day Monday have been released in a list from the City of P.A.

Sports and Recreation Manager Curtis Olsen says the city runs special programming for the holiday annually, but this year has taken on an extra significance.

“This year with COVID, having those opportunities maybe is even more important just for people to have the ability to get out,” Olsen told paNOW.

The Frank J Dunn Pool, which has been closed due to a mechanical issue since Jan. 21, is also expected to reopen this weekend, just in time for Family Day.

Olsen explained an issue with a pipe caused flooding in the basement of the facility. He commended the Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division (who jointly operates the pool with the city) for their good work completing the repair. The pool is currently being re-filled.

There will be public swimming three times daily next week. All COVID-19 rules will be enforced and swimmers have to pre-register.

Regular charges apply.

A week of historical family fun

The Prince Albert Historical Museum will offer free programming daily from 1 to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday. Activities range from crafts like coaster weaving to guided visits.

Space is limited each day, preregistration is required.

Educator Joanna Wreakes said the behind the scenes tour is sure to be popular.

“People are really excited to see what goes on behind the scenes here at the museum and the archives and where we store all of the things,” she said.

For people who aren’t comfortable visiting the museum, staff will be making some activities accessible online as through short videos, Wreakes added.
