A 29-year-old woman is facing charges in connection to an incident that happened on a Prince Albert city bus Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, officers were initially called to the city’s Central Transfer Point around 3 p.m., for a report of an assault.

Upon further investigation, they learned a woman, who appeared intoxicated, was refused entry onto the bus. She is accused of assaulting the bus driver.

Violet Corpas witnessed the incident and told paNOW she overheard the woman threatening the driver.

“She’s like ‘You’re gonna get what you deserve’ and went up to him and hit him,” she said.

As the suspect walked away, several people checked on the bus driver’s condition, including Corpas.

“I asked if he was OK and he said ‘Yes I’m OK,” she said.

The suspect was arrested and charged with assault as well as breaching a conditional sentence order. She made her first court apparance Wednesday and was remanded to Thursday morning’s docket. In the meantime, Corpas said incidents like the one on Tuesday are common.

“I catch the bus all the time and unfortunately I’ve seen a lot of bus drivers getting abused,” she said.
