Riders re-sign Vaughn, add former NFLer Williams

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced Friday the signings of two players — one on either side of the ball.

First, the CFL team said it had signed offensive tackle Terran Vaughn to a one-year contract extension. He could have become a free agent Feb. 9.

The 26-year-old product of Beaumont, Texas, dressed for seven games with the Roughriders in 2018 before making 15 starts at left tackle in 2019.

The 6-foot-3, 305-pounder out of Stephen F. Austin State University spent time with the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts, Buffalo Bills and Oakland Raiders before joining the Roughriders.

Later Friday, Saskatchewan announced it had signed former University of Alabama star Tim Williams.

The 6-foot-3, 252-pound outside linebacker/defensive end was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the third round (78th overall) of the 2017 NFL draft. A 27-year-old out of Baton Rouge, La., Williams spent three seasons in the NFL, with stops with the Ravens, Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks.

Williams played four seasons at Alabama and, as a senior, was named a second-team All-American by the Associated Press and Sports Illustrated. He also was named an All-SEC second-team performer and was a candidate for the Butkus Award as the top linebacker in college football.

That season, he had 31 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, nine sacks, two forced fumbles, two pass breakups and one fumble recovery that he returned 23 yards for a touchdown.
