Prince Albert Police report in-custody death

The Criminal Investigation Division is investigating a 30-year-old Prince Albert man’s death after he was apprehended by police Dec. 1.

According to a media release from the Prince Albert Police Service, the man was apprehended on a detention order under the Public Health Act. Officers took him to police cells overnight and transported him to the Victoria Hospital the next morning for assessment and treatment.

The man died in hospital Dec. 5 and an autopsy was performed Dec. 9. The man’s death remains under investigation by the Saskatchewan Coroners Service.

The death is being investigated as an in-custody death and the police service has requested an independent observer oversee the investigation.
