Agribition’s one and only sale for 2020 was a success

Canadian Western Agribition (CWA) officials are happy with the one sale held this fall.

Agribition 2020 was cancelled due to the pandemic, but a live commercial cattle sale was held in Moose Jaw last month under the CWA banner.

CWA CEO Chris Lane said if there was only going to be only one sale this was a good one.

“We ended up selling over 170 head of cattle at the sale on Nov. 28. Between opens and breds we had good prices and we moved some excellent cattle that day,” Lane said. “The overall sales total was just under $400,000.”

The open heifer sale averaged just under $1,600 per head while the bred heifers sold at just over $2,500.

“Those prices are in line with where we sit normally at Agribition at the commercial sale, so we were happy to see that continue,” he said. ‘The high seller with open heifers was $2,050 per head and the high seller on the breds was $3,700.”

In the RBC Supreme Showdown, Rancier Farms from Killam, Alta. showed the winning female while the top bull came from Miller Wilson Angus of Lacombe, Alta.

Agribition is creating a digital marketing service. Lane said it will be a place for all livestock and equipment manufacturing exhibitors to promote what they have to offer and connect them with buyers in Canada and around the world.

“It’s going to be a multi-media, virtual, business matching service so anyone buying or selling at Agribition can meet online and help facilitate business transactions through the year right up to Agribition 2021,” Lane said

CWA will be ready to roll out the service next year.
