It is with deep and profound sadness the family of Kenneth Wayne Lowe announce his passing to his heavenly home on November 14, 2020 after a brief but difficult battle with cancer.
Ken was born on December 7, 1948 in Carrot River, Sk. His family moved to Nipawin in 1956 where Ken lived until graduating from high school in 1967. He received his Electronics Engineering Technology diploma from DeVry Institute in Toronto in 1971 and began a long career in the computer business as a service technician then the Manager of Service in Western Canada with Wang Laboratories. He also spent several years in computer sales. Ken made a total career change in 1994 when he started a mobile sharpening and locksmith business which he owned and operated for 12 years before retiring in 2006.
Ken married the love of his life, Sylvia, in 1971. The other loves of his life were his daughter, Cheryne and son Kory. Life was truly complete for him when his granddaughters Nevaeh and Kaylee and grandson Harley came into his life. In retirement Ken and Sylvia loved to travel and spent most winters in Morro Bay, California which became their second home. There were also trips to the UK, Alaska, Italy, Spain, Czech Republic, Guatemala and Hawaii.
Ken was passionate about hockey most of his life and as well as playing, he coached Kory’s teams for many years. He also coached baseball and was the president of the Figure Skating Club when Cheryne was skating.
His other great passion was fishing and retirement gave him the opportunity to spend many hours indulging that love. His favorites were his solo trips to Jan Lake for walleye and Little Bear Lake for trout. He also loved going to Tahsis, BC every summer to salmon fish with his good friend, Tash. He also enjoyed golfing at Candle Lake and in California.
He was a member of Candle Lake search and rescue for several years and was always willing to help with projects for Communities in Bloom.
His family was always first in his life and he treasured the time spent with them. He was always ready to lend a hand when something needed to be built or fixed.
Ken was blessed with a unique sense of humor and wit. He loved to joke with his family and friends and in particular, loved to tease his grandchildren. He was friendly and outgoing and after retirement to Candle Lake, he could often be found at a neighbor’s, visiting and sharing one of his stories. His smile was second to none and lit up any room he was in.
Ken is survived by his wife, Sylvia, daughter Cheryne,( Craig Haavardsrud), son Kory, granddaughters Nevaeh and Kaylee and grandson Harley. He is also survived by his sister, Isobel and brother, George as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Walter and Joyce Lowe, his in- laws, Anne and William Poltorak, his sister- in- law, Dianne Poltorak and brother- in- law, Ernie Horudko.
A special thank you to the wonderful Homecare nurses, especially Marilyn and MaryAnne who became our earth angels and helped make it possible for Ken to pass at home. Also thank you to the Pain Management Team at the Cancer Center, especially Dana, who did their best at managing Ken’s pain and who recognized his unique personality and let it shine through in their conversations with him. Also a very special thank you to Dr Tom Garbruch who took on Ken’s end of life care in a very compassionate, caring and efficient manner.
A celebration of life will be held in Candle Lake in summer 2021.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society or The Bridge, Saskatoon.
We will love and miss you forever Ken, but you will always remain in our hearts.
