Snow plows to clear residential zones over weekend

Nov 12, 2020 | 11:37 AM

After the big snowstorm that brought over 30 centimetres of snow to Prince Albert over the weekend, city crews have been working long hours in an effort to clear the roads.

According to P.A. roads manager Brent Kennedy, priority two roads were completed this morning.

Those roads include all bus routes, collector routes, and school zones.

“We’ll be moving into residential streets tomorrow,” Kennedy told paNOW.

Kennedy added crews will be working in residential areas over the weekend, and the public should try to leave as much as room as possible for workers.

“Try and keep your vehicles off the streets, park them in the driveways, take them to a parking lot someplace close,” Kennedy said. “Try and make it as easy as possible for us. If the vehicles are not in the streets, it makes it a lot easier for us to make it through.”

According to a press release from the city Thursday morning, the planned order of plowing is as follows: Starting tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 13, crews will be in Midtown, East Hill, Southwood, Nordale and Hazeldell. Saturday, West Hill and West Flat, Sunday, Carlton Park, Crescent Acres and Crescent Heights and Monday, East Flat and Riverview.

No parking signs will be put up 12 hours in advance in each neighbourhood. Be sure not to park on the street wherever possible.

Golden Shovel

Just like the roads, sidewalks need to be cleared of snow as well at this time. Many Good Samaritans in Prince Albert have already been working hard to not only keep their sidewalks clear, but their neighbours as well.

If you had someone come out to help, the city asks you to consider nominating that person for a Golden Shovel Award, which is a great way to acknowledge their thoughtfulness for lending a hand.

According to a news release from the city earlier this week, when nominated for a Golden Shovel Award, the individual receives a golden shovel keychain as a token of appreciation. The gift is accompanied by a letter of appreciation from the mayor of Prince Albert thanking them on behalf of all residents and pedestrians.

In addition, the person nominated will have their name entered into a draw for one of the following prizes:

  • A $100 gift certificate to the Alfred Jenkins Field House
  • A $100 gift certificate for the E. A. Rawlinson Centre
  • Vouchers for six Raider Hockey Games
  • Two adult green fees at the Cooke Municipal Golf Course
