A man accused of shooting another man in the face, has elected to be tried by judge alone at Prince Albert Court of Queen’s Bench.

Dusty Keenatch, 21, has entered not guilty pleas to a number of weapons related charges as well as aggravated assault. The matter was spoken to Tuesday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court.

A preliminary hearing has also been set for Feb. 3 and a trial date may be set at that time. In the meantime, Keenatch remains in custody.

The shooting incident happened on Sept. 28 at a residence in the 900 block of 28th St. E.

The mother of the 19-year-old victim told paNOW her son has gone through multiple surgeries to repair his jaw, which remains wired shut. She added doctors have told the family he is lucky to be alive.

While the circumstances of the incident have not been discussed in court, the mother explained her son was playing video games at a friend’s house. She said another man came to the house, and while talking with another occupant in the home, started showing off and the gun went off.

A gofundme account has been created to assist the family with medical costs.
