Guilty pleas entered in Buckland armed robbery case

A man who stole a truck and threatened the owner with an imitation gun has taken responsibility for his actions.

Leroy Daniels, 26, entered a number of guilty pleas during a short hearing Wednesday at Prince Albert Provincial Court including use of a weapon to commit robbery, uttering threats and flight from police.

The vehicle theft happened on March 19 at the Driftwood Trailer Park.

The stolen truck was later located at Sturgeon Lake, but when the officers attempted to approach the vehicle, the driver sped off at a high rate of speed.

The truck was eventually brought to a halt near Little Red Reserve after a spike belt was deployed. At this point, Daniels attempted to flee on foot but could not outrun the officers.

At the time of the incident, Daniels had only been released from custody three days prior, on charges also related to vehicle theft.

Daniels was one of three men charged after a break-in at a Prince Albert business in January, 2018. Two trucks and an ATV were stolen, along with numerous electronics and tools.

The latest charges will be spoken to again on Dec. 2, however it’s unclear if sentencing will proceed at that time. Daniels also has an outstanding robbery charge before Prince Albert Court of Queen’s Bench.
