Fry ‘shocked’ to receive Golf Canada camp invite

After Brooklin Fry finished second place at the Ladies Lobstick back in August, the sharpshooter from Shell Lake thought her historic golf season was over.

At just 15 years old, Fry became the first Saskatchewan golfer in the past 10 years to win the women’s and junior provincial titles in the same year.

But even after such a stellar season, Fry was still surprised when she got invited to Golf Canada’s junior camp last week at the Bear Mountain Resort in Victoria, B.C.

Fry was with her family when she got the invite.

“Everyone was in shock, like ‘woah, is this real?'”

Not only did it turn out to be real, but Fry said it turned out to be a rewarding time.

“It was really awesome, it was a great experience. I had lots of fun, the course was really nice. It was just really awesome to be there,” Fry said.

The first few days of the camp dealt with drills and practice, before the camp wrapped up with a three-day tournament.

Although she was one of the youngest players there, Fry felt everybody’s skill level was similar — it was just a matter of who would step up and perform each day.

In the tournament, Fry shot 82 and 85 before saving her best for last, a 76 on the third day.

Thinking her season was over, Fry was busy practicing with the Prince Albert Northern Bears and getting ready for her rookie season in the Saskatchewan Female U18 AAA Hockey League.

“I didn’t shake the rust off until the last day. It was tough to get my game back in two weeks before I had to leave,” Fry said.
