P.A. Police reassuring public with four officers COVID-19 positive

The Prince Albert Police Service are reassuring the public they have enough resources and officers to ensure public safety after they announced three more officers tested positive for COVID-19 Tuesday.

After last week’s announcement, a total of four officers have now tested positive and they are at home resting.

“Some schedules have been adjusted but certainly the important priority is to make sure there is adequate staffing and resourcing on all shifts,” Public Relations and Media Coordinator, Charlene Tebbutt told paNOW. “Officers are still out there patrolling, and we still have adequate resources and that’s always going to be a priority to make sure the public is seeing officers out there and that police are responding to calls.”

Both police stations are undergoing further cleaning and sanitizing following the latest announcement. Over the weekend the stations were cleaned and sanitized following the confirmation of the positive test of the first officer.

“Everything is being sanitized even further like a deep cleaning I guess we can call it and those procedures for members to be out in the public with masks and gloves wherever possible. All of those are efforts we’re making to ensure that all officers and staff remain healthy at this time,” Tebbutt said.

The front offices at the main police station and downtown substation are temporary closed to the public until further notice and a phone and buzzer is available outside the locations for people to use if they need to speak with someone.

“So that means the public will have to use the buzzer, so the door isn’t unlocked but certainly the police station isn’t closed down, things are still happening.People are still working, officers are still out patrolling the streets,” she explained.

Some of the steps the police are taking in interacting with the public include wearing masks and gloves when in close contact as well as asking screening questions for potential COVID-19 exposure. Tebbutt said they’ve been doing this for months since the pandemic came to the community. When people call for assistance, they’re asked questions such as if they are showing any symptoms, are feeling sick, and have been tested?

Incidents that are not an emergency can be reported on their website or call 306-953-4222.
