TeleMiracle to take place as virtual event

Residents in Prince Albert looking to give back through one of the province’s biggest annual events can still do so despite some big changes because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The upcoming 45th TeleMiracle event will be virtual and is being held February 27 to 28, 2021. As usual, it will be broadcast live on CTV throughout Saskatchewan, and live streamed on their website.

According to Tessa Halldorson, public relations chair for the event, performers who are wanting to audition can do so online and in person.

“Performers can submit online video submissions until Oct. 24,” Halldorson said.

According to a media release, the deadline to apply for in person auditions in Regina is Oct. 10, and for Saskatoon auditions, Oct. 17. Apply early as there are a limited number of audition spots available.

The Kinsmen Club in Prince Albert receives donations every year from the TeleMiracle event, Marcus Abrametz, a member of the Kinsmen Club in P.A. told paNOW.

“TeleMiracle primarily assists with those who require additional medical assistance,” Abrametz said. “They will help with just about anything that somebody in need might require. Many people in Prince Albert have benefitted from prosthetics, wheelchairs, ramps, lifts, and out of province medical services.”

“It’s good that they’re still going forward with it. I go every year,” Abrametz said. “It’s a fun project and brings all of us together in the province.”

Due to the pandemic, it will be tougher than ever for the Kinsmen Club to fundraise as much as they have in the past.

“This year will be more of a challenge, and we’re still coming up with a game plan to try and match our previous donations,” Abrametz said. “Between the Prince Albert Kinsmen and the Prince Albert Kinettes Clubs we have raised between $20,000 and $30,000 every year.

“We aim to replicate that success.”

In previous years, the Kinsmen in P.A. have been able to host a TeleMiracle cabaret dance, a Raider fundraiser night, and talent show which are all still up in the air for the upcoming year.

TeleMiracle Chair, Brian Angstadt is aware of the importance of keeping this event alive.

“The event has always been a staple in Saskatchewan, so when COVID-19 hit, we really had to evaluate how we can bring this to the people of Saskatchewan,” Angstadt said. “Cancelling the event was not an option. We had to dig down deep to figure out how we can produce a show in a safe manner.”

“The big thing we want people to know is we are complying with all of Saskatchewan Health Authority and we want to make sure that we proceed in a safe manner,” he added. “We want to have a good, successful show, but we’re doing it in the safest way possible.”
