Agriculture Roundup for Friday September 18, 2020

Sep 18, 2020 | 10:09 AM

The change in weather has meant fewer damaging storms as harvest continues across western Canada.

Canadian Crop Hail Association (CCHA) companies are investigating 16 claims of crop damage from Sept. 1 to 8.

Murray Bantle with Co-operative Hail Insurance Company said storms damaged oilseeds in the Benito and McCreary regions of Manitoba and in Bethune, Lucky Lake, Nipawin, Norquay and Wilkie, Sask.

“Scattered thunderstorm activity caused damage on ready-to-harvest crops,” he said. “We are asking growers to make sure to leave adequate samples to adjust from.”

Jackie Sanden of Agriculture Financial Services Corporation said storms damaged crops in the Alberta communities of La Glace, Pincher Creek, Calmar and Thorhild.

There will be an election at Saskatchewan Pulse Growers this fall.

Six candidates have let their names stand for three director positions.

The candidates, from across the province, include Bruce Elke of Jansen, Norm Hall from Wynyard, Corey Loessin of Radisson, Ryan Neubauer of Saskatoon, Winston Van Staveren of Creelman, and Terry Youzwa from Nipawin.

Registered pulse growers will receive a voter package in late October. If a grower prefers a paper ballot, the voter package will contain the information to make that request. The voting period is Oct. 19 to Nov. 30.

Candidate biographies can be seen here.

The nomination deadline for a seat the SaskCanola board table has been extended.

Registered canola producers now have until Sept. 30 to submit nomination papers.

The election is for four positions on the eight-member board.

More information and nomination forms are available at saskcanola.com.
