Foam Lake farmers support a hospital equipment fundraiser

Foam Lake area farmers are doing their part to support an important cause.

The Foam Lake Marketing Club is donating the proceeds of a grow project to the Foam Lake and District Health Foundation for digital x-ray equipment.

Club member Victor Loeppky said they were able to combine the field of wheat.

“We seeded a 20-acre plot of hard red spring,” Loeppky said. “We had a good crop in spite of the fact there wasn’t that much rain.”

In the wet years, the Foam Lake area has seen up to 20 inches of rain. The plot only had about six inches of rain since April 1. Loeppky said they were pleased with how the crop produced

“It ended up going 72 bushels per acre with protein over 14 per cent so that was really good,” Loeppky said.

The community fundraiser received support from several local sponsors.

“We had a lot of donations that far exceeded the inputs we would need for a 20-acre plot, so we turned a lot of those into cash,” he said. “When we’re done rolling with the combines, we will make some totals up and get a cheque off to the local health foundation.”

Loeppky estimated farmers in his area are about halfway through harvest with most producers now finishing cereal crops and moving into canola.
