Cab driver escapes serious injury; woman charged with impaired driving

A Prince Albert cab driver was lucky to escape serious injury, following a bizarre chain of events early Sunday morning.

The 62-year-old driver, who requested his name not be published, told paNOW he was heading west along River street around 2:30 a.m. Sunday when he noticed a car ahead pull over.

“And I kept driving and this vehicle backed up right straight for me,” he said. “The vehicle swayed to the left and I swayed to the right. If I stayed in the same spot, that vehicle would have hit me dead on.”

The cab driver then turned left along ninth Ave, W. towards his scheduled pick-up destination. The other vehicle gave chase and tried a second time to ram the cab. Again the cab driver managed to avoid the collision, and the other car then turned onto 12th Street. Minutes later the cab safely arrived at an address in the 1400 block of 15th St. W.

“My customer was coming towards the taxi, and that same vehicle drove up and tried to go for my customer. My customer ran back inside his house,” the cab driver said. “The same vehicle backed up really fast and rammed me really hard in the back.”

Before he could move, the vehicle then sped off, but didn’t get far, crashing into a fence at the house across the street. The cab driver, who suffered minor injuries said he has no idea why the female driver was upset.

After paramedics arrived, the 26-year-old woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries. She has since been charged with impaired driving.
