Video-surveilled location for Internet sales coming to police parking lot

Prince Albert city council has approved the creation of an “Internet purchase exchange zone” in the parking lot of the Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) building.

The location, consisting of a few parking spaces, will have set hours and provide a video-surveilled zone where the public can meet to exchange goods bought on Internet platforms like Kijiji and Facebook Marketplace.

Coun. Blake Edwards, who initially proposed the measure last year, told a Sept. 8 meeting he’d like to see the city start with one Internet purchase exchange zone and expand to a second location in front of the downtown police sub-station if the first was well-used.

Speaking to paNOW on Monday, director of planning and development services, Craig Guidinger said city administration will be working with the PAPS to prepare and install signage at the location within the next month.
