New Candle Lake council formally takes office

Sep 5, 2020 | 8:00 AM

The all new mayor and four members of council at the Resort Village of Candle Lake were sworn in Friday afternoon following their resounding success in the polls on Saturday.

After the formal proceedings in front of limited family and friends given the COVID-19 restrictions, Mayor Terry Kostyna told paNOW he’s happy with the team the community has selected.

“We have some progressive thinkers, people who seem to be willing to think ahead and make some plans,” he said. “So, I look forward to working with this group of people.”

Kostyna asked for the public’s patience as the brand-new line up of elected officials find their feet. They will need to learn what they’ve inherited from the previous council and gain an understanding of the mechanics of Candle Lake governance.

“We have a lot to learn, we have a lot to catch up on, we have a lot to work with,” he explained. “We might be a little slow out the gate for the first few months, and might make a few mistakes along the way, but we’ll regroup, take our time, and do things the right way.”

He said creating a communication plan with the public was one of the new council’s priorities.
