Jack Robert Adams
December 14th, 1929 – April 28th, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jack Robert Adams on Tuesday evening, April 28, 2020 at Mont St. Joseph Home in Prince Albert, SK with his loving wife Lea, by his side. Due to declining health, Jack was welcomed to Mont St. Joseph Home on January 26, 2011 where he resided until his passing.
Jack was born on December 14, 1929 in Bassano, AB to Jesse and Khristina (née Johansdotter). He was the youngest of nine children, all of whom are now deceased. Jack was raised on the family farm in Rosemary, AB where he attended elementary and secondary school there. He farmed with his dad until 1951 when his parents retired and moved to Bassano. He continued farming for ten years. In 1961, Jack purchased and operated a hardware store in Vauxhaul, AB for a few years and in 1965, Jack and his family moved to Calgary. Jack worked as a salesman for Galt’s Dry Goods Company covering southern parts of AB and SK.
In 1968, Winchester Canada offered Jack to be their provincial representative for Saskatchewan. He accepted the position and did a great job for the company. Jack and his family moved to Saskatoon on Grey Cup Day in the fall of 1968. He was in that position for over 12 years. He had fond memories of his time with the company. During those years, Jack dealt with wholesalers of sporting firearms and ammunition and did a lot of PR work with retailers and Gun Club members across the province and beyond. Being of a personable nature, he made many lasting friendships with people in sporting goods stores and with gun club members across the prairies. As an industry representative, Jack participated in many shooting competitions at various Gun Clubs in SK, Man., AB and even Minot, North Dakota. Lea got tired of just watching and finally took up the sport herself. .Some people will remember the good times at the Adams’ trailer at the end of a shooting competition where we all relaxed with Jack’s famous Irish coffee followed by a good card game. Many stories could be told about those wonderful years travelling from one weekend shooting competition to another.
Jack loved hunting ducks, geese, and pheasants and in the Fall, there’s nothing he enjoyed more than going hunting with his buddies in the Wadena, Quill Lake areas and also in the Leader/Prelate areas.
Jack was a tall, handsome fellow who was a “gentle giant”. He was a hard worker, conscientious and a good listener. He was very generous with his time, always ready to help out anyone. Jack was involved with Ducks Unlimited Canada as a Senior Volunteer and participated in many D.U. banquets in the province. He was a member of the Saskatoon Gun Club and was instrumental in helping organize what got to be the Club’s annual fundraiser: “The Collectors’ Show” held every March in Saskatoon. A highlight for Jack was being co-chair of the biggest event held at the Saskatoon Gun Club: “The 1981 Canadian Trapshooting Championships”. A total of 500 shooters participated in the 4-day event. The Saskatoon Gun Club showed their appreciation to Jack for all his involvement and work for the Saskatoon Club by having a “Roast Jack Adams Night” in August of 2001 and was awarded a Lifetime membership to the Gun Club. It was a great evening and Jack appreciated it very much! He was so happy to see his four sons there! Lea kept their attendance a surprise from Jack!
Jack was predeceased by his parents, Jesse and Khristina; his oldest brother, James (1940) and 7 older sisters: Minnie Lowe (2008); Hazel Connally (2004); Dorothy Nixon (1971; Irine Bender (2004); Mabel (1956); Jessie McKinstry (2002) Ellen (1951); two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law: Joe Fauchoux (2014) and wife Lillian (née Phaneuf) (2016); and Victor Fauchoux (2019).
