Lloydminster Stockade Round-Up event going ahead with COVID-19 precautions

LLOYDMINSTER, SASK. – Members of the Lloydminster Agricultural Exhibition Association are excited to announce the Stockade Round-Up will still take place as planned this fall, while following the province’s COVID-19 restrictions.

The event will run from November 4 to 7.

Agriculture Manager Sydney Lake said the association is adhering to requirements after receiving approval from the province to run the event under the legislation for reopening plans for trade shows.

“We are really excited to be able to put on an event for our cattle producers in the area as well as across the Prairie provinces,” she said. “The fall show circuit is really important for purebred producers to market their cattle, and their beef genetics. So we felt we had to do whatever we could to provide them a safe spot to do that.”

Lake said the guidelines have changed significantly since the spring, as well as people’s awareness and ability to meet those requirements, to enable the show to proceed.

“We have three buildings that provide lots of space for our exhibitors and their cattle,” she said. “We went through all the procedures to ensure we are able to have a safe show, by [making sure] we are meeting the social distancing and sanitation guidelines.”

A maximum of 450 cattle will be accepted into the show. Capacity numbers for attendees will also be reduced.

The show will also be live streamed online through Direct Livestock Marketing Services (DLMS), Lake said, so people can watch it from home if they wish and not miss any of the action in the show rings.

The four-day event includes purebred cattle shows as well as the King of the Ring Bull Calf Jackpot Show, Stockade Lady Heifer Calf Jackpot Show, Princess of the Praires, Junior events, Premier Exhibitor and Breeder Awards, as well as the Supreme Show, among some of the highlights.

The full schedule will be accessible on the event’s website.

Entries opened for previous exhibitors starting Sept. 1. General exhibitor entries will open on Sept. 16. The deadline to enter is Oct. 1.

Many area producers are looking forward to taking part in the show.

Beef producer Tiffany Peters, of Peters Simmentals, near Perdue, Saskatchewan, said she has been participating in the event for over a decade and was delighted to find it was going ahead.

“I did a happy dance,” she said. “It was a relief that there was a show… I think the barns are going to be full because there are a lot of people very interested in going.”

Peters and her family who raise purebred Simmental cattle will be showing some bull calves and heifer calves, and appreciate having an opportunity to display their stock. She said the event also helps with sales of bull calves.

“I encourage everybody to go to the show, just because it is a really good event,” she said.
