Sask. Rivers Public School Division adds full remote learning to return plan

The Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division (SRPSD) has announced they’re introducing remote learning for students in Kindergarten to Grade 12 as part of their Return to School Plan.

In a letter to parents, the division explained after having conversations with multiple families and listening to suggestions, the school division will continue to support students with remote learning whose medical needs prevent them from attending school as well as for those who now simply choose the online platform option.

The SRPSD explained they understand the pandemic presents risks for some students and remote learning may be in their best interest.

Those who believe remote learning is the best option for their student can fill out this form.

Director of Education Robert Bratvold said while online learning offered some exciting possibilities he also stressed it requires daily time, energy and resources to be dedicated by both the student and families.

“It does require a level of commitment, a level of dedication that is different than what might be required within a classroom, so there are some differences there,” he told paNOW.

Bratvold added while this was an important option, he did not expect a large uptake.

“We expect the vast majority of our kids will be in our local schools… [the remote option] will meet a small portion of students who have those medical/health needs that prevent them from attending school and a slightly larger portion of families who have some other needs that can be served by this,” he said.

On Aug. 26 each school in the division will announce their plans to support each student’s mental and physical health as well as educational needs. Then, on Aug. 31, the next version of the division plan will be made available.
