Savannah Fulton has known Kayla Aubichon since they were very young girls, and is now dealing with the fact that she will never see her longtime friend ever again.

Aubichon, 33, was fatally stabbed outside the Gateway Mall on the night of July 28, and was pronounced deceased in hospital. Fighting back tears as she spoke on the phone, Fulton told paNOW she was devastated when she heard what happened.

“I was really hurt because I knew she was on the streets, like she had nowhere to go most of the time. She was always by herself, doing her own thing,” Fulton said.

Aubichon and Fulton grew up at Green Lake,. and Fulton, who last saw Aubichon about two months ago, recalled giving her friend some money before she left for Prince Albert.

“Every time I seen her would give her $50, $40 or whatever she needed. When she was hungry she would always say ‘yeah I’m hungry sis and I would just give her money,” she said

Despite Aubichon’s struggles over the years with addictions, Fulton said her friend was a “really nice girl girl”, who never went looking for trouble.

“I’m just so hurt that she’s gone,” Fulton said. “This shouldn’t happen to anybody.”

The woman charged in connection to Aubichon’s death, Latisha Dakota Grumbo, made her latest court appearance Tuesday morning via video from the Pine Grove Correctional Centre. The case was adjourned to Aug. 24.

In addition to the second degree murder charge, Grumbo also faces a number of charges in connection to an unrelated incident in Prince Albert on June 30.

The details have not been explained in court, but a spokesperson for the Prince Albert Police Service told paNOW a stolen vehicle was responsible for causing a three vehicle accident in the 800 block of 15th St. W around noon. Fortunately only minor injuries were reported. The driver fled the scene but Grumbo was arrested shortly after and charged in connection to the incident.

A court hearing was held at the police station, and Grumbo was released on an undertaking, scheduled to appear July 27 at Prince Albert Provincial Court, which she did do.

However she was also required that day to go back to the police station and provide fingerprints, which she failed to do, and was subsequently charged with a breach of a court order.
