Agriculture Roundup for Monday August 10, 2020
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) provided an update on unrequested packages of seeds arriving in mailboxes.
CFIA received reports from more than 750 individuals who have received the unknown seeds.
CFIA said it is continuing to collect information on the unsolicited seed packages. The packages were postmarked from several different countries and many are declared as toys or jewelry which has made it difficult to identify the packages as containing seeds when they arrive in the country.
Based on visual inspections carried out to date, the seeds appear to be low risk, however Canadians are being cautioned to not plant the seeds.
