Jul 15, 2020 | 5:29 PM

The Prince Albert Police Service has released a statement, indicating they are aware of concerning posts made over social media this week involving a white van.

Over the past 24 hours, there have several posts on Facebook involving the white van, but paNOW has chosen not to reflect on the context of those claims.

In light though of these posts, the police service initiated an investigation into possible suspicious activity, which included a check of a white van that was located parked in an alleyway.

As of Wednesday, officers have found no evidence of suspicious activity involving this vehicle. Police spokesperson Charlene Tebbutt is encouraging anyone who may have more credible information, to come forward.

“If there’s information we can follow up on, because at this point we don’t have an official report and we don’t have a lot of detail to look into,” she said.

As part of the investigation, police officers also followed up with other agency partners to determine the reliability of the information contained in the posts, with no results. Despite the lack of details, Tebbutt said police still felt compelled to issue a statement.

“We always want to focus on what the community is talking about and it had been brought to our attention,” she said. “We wanted to make sure we were doing our due diligence to confirm public safety wasn’t at risk.”

Anyone with information about the alleged incident, is asked to call the police service directly or 9-1-1. Police are also advising the public not to use Facebook, Instagram or Twitter pages to report crime or suspicious activity.
