Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Unit (MCU) announced on Sunday that Charles St. Savard has been charged with first degree murder in relation to the death of Tiki Laverdiere.

St. Savard, a 33-year-old man from Edmonton, is now the ninth person charged in the murder of Laverdiere.

Laverdiere travelled from Edmonton to North Battleford for a funeral in May 2019 before she disappeared. Her remains were found outside of the city in July. Laverdiere was 25 years old.

The MCU continued their investigation and “newly received information” in the past two weeks led to St. Savard’s arrest and charges.

Two people have been sentenced so far in the case. Brent Checkosis received seven years in prison for accessory after the fact to murder on May 15. Also on May 15, Mavis Takakenew was sentenced to 18 months for the same charge.

Nikita Sandra Cook is charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping. She is scheduled to stand trial at Battleford Queen’s Bench Court next year, on Jan. 11, 2021.

Nicole Cook, Jesse Sangster, Soaring Eagle Whitstone, Danita Thomas and Shayla Orthner are facing charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping, improperly interfering with a human body and theft of a motor vehicle.
