Canadian Western Agribition (CWA) has been cancelled for this year.

CWA announced the decision was made in response to restrictions and recommendations surrounding COVID-19.

President Chris Lees said the 50th anniversary show will be postponed until 2021.

“This was a difficult decision to make, but the health and safety of our exhibitors, sponsors, volunteers, partners, and guests is priority,” Lees said in a media release. “We owe it to everyone connected to Agribition to make the best decisions we can, even when they’re the hardest ones to make.”

Agribition, scheduled for Nov. 30 to Dec. 5, 2020, will now take place Nov. 22 to 27, 2021.

Lees said they are creating new digital experiences for exhibitors, international buyers, and students. Work on mentorship, international market development, education, and scholarships will also continue through 2020.

Nominations are open for the Saskatchewan Cattlemen’s Association (SCA) board elections.

The terms for the representatives in districts 2, 3B, 5, 7, and 9A are all up for renewal in 2020.

To be eligible to vote in the elections, you will need to attend the meeting in your district. Producers must live or have their head office in the district they are voting in, paid the checkoff and have not asked a refund in the last two years.

The meetings are also for producers to learn about what is happening in the industry.

Cargill is building a $30 million fertilizer retail and distribution centre at Camrose, Alta.

This will be Cargill’s first retail site in Western Canada to have four-product liquid coating capabilities for micronutrients and nutrient stabilizer coatings.

The distribution centre is also expected to improve fertilizer distribution at its Vermilion, Vegreville, Leduc, and Beiseker locations.

The facility will have 35,000 tonnes of storage capacity and is scheduled to be open August 2021.

The AgSmart conference scheduled for August at Olds, Alta. has been cancelled in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In its place a virtual ag directory has been launched to connect producers will ag-tech companies.

The directory will be free to access until the fall and will provide interactive listings and educational features for producers.

Farmers can sign up for the my Show Planner to have full access to the directory and other features.

Plans are underway for AgSmart 2021, which will be hosted at Olds College.
